Three charged after shooting into Lowndes County home, no injuries reported

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. — Authorities say three people have been arrested following a shooting into a residence on Hobbs Sheffield Road Saturday night.

Lowndes County deputies responded to a disturbance at a home in Columbus around 8:53 p.m., according to sheriff’s office reports. The victims told deputies that 19-year-old Jaylin Shelton, 18-year-old Andrea Thornton, and 18-year-old Jeremiah Brewer arrived at the residence.

They said Shelton got into a physical fight with the homeowner in the front yard, which was captured on a surveillance camera. During the altercation, Brewer turned a vehicle around in the yard. Shelton ran back toward the vehicle, and Brewer exited and fired one round from a 9mm handgun into the house.

The bullet went through a window and a wall before stopping in the back of the home. No injuries were reported.

Brewer was charged with shooting into a dwelling. Shelton and Thornton face charges of accessory to shooting into a dwelling.

All three are in custody at the Lowndes County Detention Center and await their initial court appearances. The investigation remains ongoing.
