Judge sentences two Louisville men in federal drug trafficking case

ABERDEEN — Senior U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock sentenced two Louisville men in federal court after they pleaded guilty to drug trafficking involving methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, despropionyl fentanyl and heroin, federal officials said.

Aaron Hughes, 33, was sentenced March 24 to 108 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. Hughes also was convicted on a firearms charge. Warren Goss, 58, was sentenced May 12 to 70 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.

Federal officials said the convictions stemmed from a Homeland Security Task Force operation that involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisville Police Department. U.S. Attorney Scott Leary said authorities have “zero tolerance” for fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and illegal firearms.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff said the sentences should serve as a warning to others involved in violent crime and drug trafficking. The case was prosecuted as part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative, a multiagency effort targeting criminal organizations and drug trafficking operations. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sam Stringfellow and Julie Addison prosecuted the case.
