Rankin County emergency crews responded Wednesday afternoon to a forest fire on Clara Foote Road, about 2 miles south of Brandon, authorities said.
The fire burned less than 20 acres initially and threatened a nearby deer camp that housed a camper and ATVs, according to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department. Firefighters arrived around 2 p.m. and deployed multiple fire trucks to contain the blaze.
By 5:30 p.m., the fire was contained after firefighters created firebreaks using equipment from the Mississippi Forestry Commission. An estimated 60 acres have burned, but no structures are at risk, officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
