Gov. Tate Reeves announced the appointment of Judge Wes Curry, IV as 12th Circuit Court District Judge for Place 2. This appointment fills a vacancy created by the resignation of the Honorable Jon Mark Weathers.
“Judge Curry will do a great job in this position, and I was proud to appoint him,” said Gov. Reeves. “His many years of public and private sector experience make him an ideal candidate to serve in this role. I wish Judge Curry the best of luck and thank him for stepping up to serve the people of Mississippi.”
Curry has served as presiding municipal court judge for the City of Hattiesburg since 2017 and Justice Court Judge for Forrest County since 2012. In these two roles, Judge Curry presided over thousands of criminal, civil, and code enforcement trials. Additionally, he presided over thousands of initial appearances, and ruled on hundreds of preliminary hearings. Curry is currently a partner at Curry & Curry, PLLC in Hattiesburg. He is the 2024 recipient of the Judge Stephen S. Goss Memorial Award for Leadership, awarded by the Council of State Governments Justice Center.
Curry earned a J.D. in 2000 and a Bachelor of Arts in 1997 from the University of Mississippi.
Curry’s term will begin on June 6. Gov. Reeves will call a special election to be held on Nov. 4, 2025. The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of the four-year term.
