State Fire Academy Ribbon Cutting and Dedication
The Mississippi State Fire Academy (MSFA) will host the Ribbon Cutting at 11:30 a.m., March 15, for a new Fire Station and Dormitory building on campus. The Lobby will be dedicated to Senator Dean Kirby, District 30, in appreciation for his diligent support and being the driving force in making this possible. This 29,000-square foot building houses two classrooms, 12 offices, 32 dorm rooms, a brand-new weight room, and a six-unit/three-door Apparatus Bay. It will also boast several training features such as anchor points for rope rescue and confined space entry.
This event is open to the public on MSFA’s campus, located at #1 Fire Academy USA, in Jackson.
“We’re excited to have this new Dormitory and Fire House on campus,” said MSFA Executive Director Terry Wages. “We want the best trained firefighters serving your communities throughout Mississippi. This building will help us facilitate more classes and train more firefighters to achieve that goal.”
“The Fire Academy is already one of the premier training institutes in the United States,” added Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Chaney. “This building allows us to train more firefighters in top tier facilities with great instructors. It’s not just a boon for the fire academy but for the whole state.”
The new Dormitory and Fire House is rated Storm Safe thanks to a grant from MEMA’s Office of Hazard Mitigation. It will also serve as a State Emergency Response Facility.
