National Weather Service urges advance preparation for severe weather

The US National Weather Service Jackson Mississippi is urging people not to wait until the day of a storm to begin protecting themselves. If severe weather is in the forecast, residents should prepare in advance.

The agency recommends setting up multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, including NOAA Weather Radio, smartphone apps and local media. It also advises people to test those alert methods now.

Knowing when a watch or warning is issued can give people time to act, the agency said.
