Meridian hosts Southern Rail Commission meeting, backs proposed I-20 corridor

Mayor Percy Bland welcomed the Southern Rail Commission to Meridian for its quarterly meeting at The MAX, according to the city government. Meridian supports continued development of the proposed I-20 passenger rail corridor, citing potential opportunities for travel, tourism and economic development.

“Rail has always been part of Meridian’s story, and we believe it can be an important part of our future,” Bland said. “Expanding passenger rail creates new connections and new opportunities. That’s momentum.”

The city thanked the commission for selecting Meridian for the meeting and for its work to advance passenger rail across the region.
