MBI investigating officer-involved shootings in Jackson, Collins
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Covington County Sheriff’s Department that occurred on Saturday, Jan. 20.
Deputies were responding to a call for service at a residence on Jack Flowers Road in Collins. Upon arrival at the residence, the subject began firing a weapon at the responding deputies, leading to an exchange of gunfire striking the subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital. The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries during this incident. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is also investigating an officer-involved shooting involving a Hinds County Sheriff’s Deputy that occurred on Friday, Jan. 19.
At approximately 8 p.m., a deputy with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department was working as a security guard at the Kroger on Interstate 55 in Jackson, when the deputy was notified of a disturbance in the parking lot. Upon approaching the vehicle with the subject involved, the deputy saw what appeared to be a weapon and discharged his weapon striking the subject.
The subject received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The deputy involved did not receive any serious physical injuries. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
