House Republicans Reject $2,000 Stimulus Checks After Trump’s Request
Despite President Donald Trump threatening to not sign the bill if the stimulus check amount was raised, House Republicans have denied House Democrats’ request of unanimous consent to raise the amount from $600 to $2,000.
Trump posted a video on Monday stating his disappointment in Congress not giving more aid to the American people despite the bill having massive federal spending on foreign aid attached to the bill.
Congress attached the federal government spending bill to the COVID-19 relief bill in order to make sure a shutdown did not occur this week.
As of now, the relief bill still sits unsigned on President Trump’s bill. If it passes, checks could be issued as early as a week after signing.
