Body Recovered of Missing Twentymile Creek Swimmer

The body of the missing man who was swept away while trying to swim across Twentymile Creek on Sunday has been recovered.

According to Sheriff Jim Johnson, the body of 37 year old Josh Mallete was found on Tuesday afternoon in the Dugger Creek area.

The search was pivoted into a rescue effort after two days of searching. According to a press release from Lee County Sheriff’s Department, the search moved downstream into Itawamba County. The search had been called off each night, but resumed each morning.

The teams involved in searching for the missing man consisted of the Lee and Itawamba County Sheriff’s Departments, The Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, Tupelo Fire Department Swiftwater Teams, local volunteer fire departments, and EMA agencies from both Lee and Itawamba County.
