Road conditions remain very hazardous in parts of Mississippi, a Facebook post warned, and motorists are being urged to avoid travel if it is not necessary.
The post said drivers should slow down and avoid sudden braking or turns, not use cruise control on icy roads, and keep plenty of distance between vehicles. It also advised drivers to check tires, brakes and windshield wipers before driving and to be patient and stay alert.
The post encouraged people to follow the Mississippi Department of Transportation for the latest updates on road conditions. The department maintains the state’s highways and routinely posts travel advisories, closures and safety information on its website and social media channels during winter weather and other events.
