Police find man shot to death in vacant Skyline Drive home
A man believed to have been reported missing earlier in the day was found shot to death Tuesday night inside a vacant residence in the 3600 block of Skyline Drive in Jackson, authorities said.
Interim Police Chief and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said officers responded shortly after 9 p.m. after receiving information that a missing person might be at or near the location. Upon arrival, officers found a Black man deceased inside the unoccupied property.
“It’s apparent that he had been shot at least once,” Jones said during a press conference at the scene. Authorities said the killing is Jackson’s eighth homicide this year. Investigators believe the victim may be the same individual reported missing earlier Tuesday in Jackson, but they are awaiting formal identification and family notification before releasing a name.
Investigators reported that a 2020 gray Nissan Sentra belonging to the victim was missing from the scene. Family members of the missing person were in the area and spoke with officers, which led to the discovery of the body, Jones said. Police do not believe the victim lived at the vacant home and are working to determine why he was there and whether he had any connection to the property.
Authorities have not identified a motive and said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
