Motorcyclist dies after striking pole on U.S. 98 in Greene County
A motorcyclist died Friday night when his motorcycle left the roadway and struck a utility pole on U.S. Highway 98 in Greene County, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred March 6 at approximately 9:45 p.m. near Mississippi Highway 57, authorities said. The rider was identified as Thomas J. Everett, 69, of Daphne, Alabama. Everett was driving a 2023 Harley-Davidson and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Greene County Coroner’s Office.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the motorcycle was traveling west on U.S. 98 when it left the roadway and struck the power pole. The crash remains under investigation by the patrol, the agency responsible for investigating serious and fatal crashes on state highways.
U.S. 98 is a major east-west route that carries local and through traffic across southern Mississippi. Motorcycle crashes frequently result in serious injury or death because riders do not have the protective structure of enclosed vehicles, making such collisions especially severe. Authorities did not release additional details about contributing factors. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
