Mississippi Guard, wildlife officers assist Alcorn County after hazardous weather

The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook that the Mississippi Army National Guard and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks are assisting county deputies and residents following recent hazardous conditions.

The sheriff’s office said MDWFP officers are helping deputies answer calls for service and patrol the county, while the Mississippi Army National Guard is providing security at the county Emergency Management Agency warming shelter and conducting welfare checks across the area.

Officials said conditions are improving with sunshine and warmer temperatures, but several areas of the county remain dangerous to travel. The sheriff’s office urged motorists to slow down and drive safely because work crews and first responders remain on the roads.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks manages outdoor recreation and conservation programs statewide, and the Mississippi Army National Guard commonly supports state and local emergency response efforts. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
