Man pleads guilty to federal firearm charge in North Mississippi
GREENVILLE — Daniel Mireles-Reyna pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally possessing firearms after his arrest along the Natchez Trace Parkway in North Mississippi, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi said. He entered the plea before U.S. District Judge Debra M. Brown and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison; sentencing is set for a later date.
Court documents show Mireles-Reyna was arrested Dec. 26, 2025, on the Natchez Trace Parkway near Tupelo after National Park Service rangers responded to the scene. Rangers found a loaded, stolen handgun in his pocket, authorities said.
A search of his vehicle uncovered two additional firearms, including a Glock handgun and a Draco 7.62 firearm, along with ammunition and suspected narcotics, the documents show. Agents with Homeland Security Investigations determined Mireles-Reyna was not a U.S. citizen and had entered the United States from Mexico and was in the country unlawfully, the office said.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the case was investigated by the National Park Service and Homeland Security Investigations and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Herzog Jr. The office said the case is part of a federal initiative known as Operation Take Back America, which focuses on violent crime and transnational criminal activity. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
