Lee County sheriff arrests Saltillo woman on false pretense charge

The Lee County Sheriff’s Department said it arrested Sherry L. Hardin, 63, of Saltillo, Mississippi, on one count of false pretense following an investigation into an alleged deceptive act.

Investigators opened the probe after receiving a report and developed sufficient evidence to establish probable cause, the department said. Hardin was booked into the Lee County Adult Detention Center.

A Lee County Justice Court judge set bond at $10,000, court records provided by the department show. The sheriff’s office identified Sheriff Jim H. Johnson in its release announcing the arrest.

False pretense charges typically allege obtaining money or property by deception; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case will proceed through the local court system, where prosecutors must present evidence to support the charge.
