Lee County sheriff, APS play bingo with elderly on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

LEE COUNTY, Miss. — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Adult Protective Services, a division of the Mississippi Department of Human Services, spent World Elder Abuse Awareness Day with elderly and adults with special needs at a local adult day care center, Sheriff Johnson said in a Facebook post.

Photos posted by the sheriff’s office show staff and visitors taking part in a game of bingo. The post said the gathering was intended as a community outreach activity and to draw attention to the needs of vulnerable adults.

The sheriff’s office said it remains committed to supporting and partnering with APS in its mission to protect and advocate for vulnerable populations. Adult Protective Services investigates reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation of adults who are elderly or have disabilities.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is observed to raise awareness of the abuse and neglect of older adults. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said it is proud to work with APS to promote safety, dignity and well-being in the community. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
