JPD summer camp visits Latasha Norman Center at Jackson State
The Jackson Police Department’s Camp Blue Shield summer camp for teens visited the Latasha Norman Center at Jackson State University, the department said in a Facebook post Monday.
The department said the visit provided campers with insight into leadership, advocacy and resources aimed at helping young people make positive choices and build brighter futures. The post thanked the Latasha Norman Center for welcoming the campers and specifically acknowledged Shelita Rouster and Courtland Sanders for hosting the group.
The Jackson Police Department runs youth programs designed to foster trust and provide educational opportunities for local teenagers. Jackson State University is a historically Black university located in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Latasha Norman Center provides campus-based support and programming that often focuses on student development and advocacy.
The visit highlights partnerships between law enforcement and higher-education institutions that aim to support youth development and community engagement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
