Inmates at Quitman Community Work Center earn forklift certification

QUITMAN COUNTY, Miss. — Twenty-five participants at the Quitman Community Work Center completed forklift training through a partnership between the Mississippi Department of Corrections and Coahoma Community College, officials said. The training program concluded Friday, March 6, and provided hands-on instruction aimed at preparing participants for employment after reentry into the community.

Mississippi Department of Corrections officials said the certification gives participants industry-recognized skills while building confidence and readiness for the workforce. The MDOC said such programs are part of broader efforts to reduce recidivism and create pathways to meaningful employment for individuals preparing to return to society.

MDOC officials credited community partnerships, including Coahoma Community College, for helping provide training opportunities that support rehabilitation and workforce development. Coahoma Community College is a public community college in Mississippi that offers vocational and academic programs.

Officials did not release additional details on long-term placement or follow-up services. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
