Gulfport deputy commander Paul Podlin retires after more than 29 years
Gulfport Police Department announced Monday that Deputy Commander Paul Podlin is retiring after more than 29 years with the agency. Podlin joined the department full time on May 4, 1999, and most recently served as deputy commander of operations.
During his career, Podlin worked in the Proactive Unit and Street Crimes and served on the Firearms Committee. He provided K-9 leadership, oversaw the Support Bureau and Special Events, and held numerous collateral assignments, including Tactical Training, the Evaluation Team, the Technology Team, the SWAT entry and tactical teams, the Retention Team and the Motor Unit.
The department posted on Facebook that Podlin led with “professionalism, integrity, and a steady presence” and said, “Thank you, Deputy Commander Podlin, for your extraordinary service, leadership, and sacrifice.” The post noted he mentored younger officers and helped develop future leaders.
The Gulfport Police Department said it wishes Podlin and his family health and happiness as he begins his next chapter. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
