Commercial air service returns to Natchez after 30 years

Commercial air service has returned to Natchez, Mississippi, after more than 30 years, a local Facebook post said. United Airlines will connect southwest Mississippi to Houston, the post said, and officials said the service could bring travelers from around the world to the river city.

The post congratulated Mayor Dan Gibson, saying the restoration of service represents “another big economic win for this amazing community.” The Facebook post did not provide schedules, frequencies or the start date for the United flights.

Nestled on the Mississippi River, Natchez is known for its antebellum architecture, historic sites and a tourism economy that draws visitors for heritage festivals and riverfront attractions. Restoring commercial flights can increase access for tourists, business travelers and residents who currently must travel longer distances to reach major airports.

Local officials and community leaders often cite improved air service as a way to expand economic development, increase tourism and attract new investment. Details remain limited; we will provide more information as it becomes available.
