Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office urges motorists to avoid travel during hazardous road conditions

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office urged motorists in a Facebook post to avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary because of extremely hazardous road conditions.

The office said deputies are inundated with calls to assist stranded motorists, many of whom became stuck while making non-emergency trips. It warned that continuing to travel under the current conditions puts drivers, passengers and first responders at risk.

The advisory emphasized that staying off the roads helps keep everyone safe and allows deputies to respond to critical calls. The sheriff’s office serves as the primary law enforcement and emergency response agency for Coahoma County, Mississippi, and frequently issues road and safety advisories when weather or other conditions create hazards.

The office did not provide additional details about the specific cause of the hazardous conditions or the number of incidents. Residents are advised to postpone nonessential travel and monitor official channels for updates. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
