Citizens Police Academy studies Deter program, crash reconstruction
Members of a Citizens Police Academy class met Monday night at Southaven Municipal Court to hear about local offender education programs and police operations, according to a Facebook post.
Participants heard the history of Desoto County Deter, described in the post as a program that offers drug and alcohol education to offenders and may include attendance at a Victims Impact Panel. The post identified Jason Bayless as the guest speaker.
From the Traffic Division, Officer Nathan Ryan and Sergeant Deonta Young discussed tools used in accident reconstruction and reviewed DUI laws, the post said. Lieutenant Harris and Officer Dickson provided information about the Public Relations Division and its community outreach, which the post said is supported by Volunteers in Policing.
The post noted that those who complete the Citizens Police Academy are eligible to become Volunteers in Policing. Citizens Police Academy programs typically give residents an overview of department operations and law enforcement procedures. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
