18-year-old arrested in Gulfport homicide

Gulfport police arrested 18-year-old Ulrick Lamont Ellis on March 8 and charged him with one count of homicide in the death of a man found in a vehicle on Feb. 13, the Gulfport Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Officers responded about 7:34 a.m. on Feb. 13 to a welfare check in the 3900 block of 21st Street and located a male, later identified as Rogeick Deandre Cohea III, deceased inside a vehicle, police said.

Detectives identified Ellis as the suspect and determined he killed Cohea during a robbery that went wrong, the department said.

Police said Ellis was located on March 8 with assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Capitol Police. Authorities said he barricaded himself and was forced out after officers deployed CS gas.

The Gulfport Police Department asked anyone with information to call 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898. Anonymous tips also can be submitted at mscrimestoppers.org. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
