This morning the Alcorn School District said it received a tip about a potential safety concern after a vehicle came onto the campus of Alcorn Central High School. School and district personnel immediately responded, approached the vehicle as it entered school grounds and searched it, the district said in a Facebook post.
The district said officials found a handgun inside the vehicle and immediately seized the firearm. A student associated with the vehicle has been taken into custody by the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department, the post said.
The district said it believes, based on information available at this time, that the incident is isolated. It also said the matter is now under law enforcement jurisdiction and that no further details can be shared at this time.
School officials typically work with local law enforcement to address safety threats and to review protocols after such incidents. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
