Det. Melvin Williams is retiring from the Jackson Police Department after 31 consecutive years of service to the City of Jackson, the department said.
Williams said his career included difficult days, long nights, sacrifices and challenges, but that he remained proud to serve. He thanked the department for the opportunity to serve the city and its residents for more than three decades.

“The badge may be retiring, but the memories, friendships, and love I have for the Jackson Police Department will remain with me forever. Signing off Badge 676,” Williams said.
The department asked the public to join Chief RaShall Brackney and Jackson police officers in congratulating Williams and thanking him for his service.
