Chester Williams has joined the ranks of the Vicksburg Police Department, according to a post from the department on Facebook.
The department said Williams views joining as more than putting on a uniform. It described his reason for serving as answering the call to serve, protect and make a difference in the community.
Jon Ross Myers founded Mississippi News Group in 2013. Before founding the organization, he worked at The Daily Mississippian, The Marion Salute and The Southern Sentinel. A Mississippi journalist and writer based in Ripley, he received second place in poetry in the 2025 William Faulkner Literary Competition for "The Garden."
