Mississippi touts momentum ahead of major jobs announcement

A Facebook post titled “Mississippi has Momentum!” said Mississippians “make things” and teased an announcement at 10 a.m. that it called “one of the largest jobs announcements in state history.” The post did not identify the poster or provide further details.

State and local leaders routinely use social media to preview economic development news, including commitments from manufacturers and large employers. Manufacturing has long played a significant role in Mississippi’s economy, from food processing to automotive and shipbuilding supply chains.

A major jobs announcement could carry wide implications for affected communities, including new employment opportunities, demands on local infrastructure, workforce training needs and potential tax revenue changes. State economic development officials typically coordinate incentives, site preparation and workforce programs when recruiting large employers.

Officials had not released additional information by the time of the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
