Mississippi school to drop “Confederates” from the name of their school sports teams
A Mississippi school is dropping the name “Confederates” from all of their sports teams after a vote from the local school board, according to a report from Lowndes County Sports.
Caledonia will no longer go by the “Confederates” after the Lowndes County School District Board unanimously voted Friday to change the name.
The school board will announce the name change within the next 60 days.
The first football game for Caledonia is scheduled for September 4th, while other sports will start sooner.
The school has used the Confederate name for their sports teams since the 1950’s, although in recent years they have went by the term ‘Feds.
