Starkville police escort cheer teams home after UCA national medals
Starkville Police Department said it will escort local cheer teams through Starkville around 9 p.m. as they return to Yellow Jacket Stadium after winning medals at the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship.
The department posted on Facebook congratulating Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District Middle School Cheer on a silver medal and Starkville Varsity Cheer on a bronze medal. The post urged residents to “make some noise and help welcome them home.”
The UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship is a national competition that draws school squads from across the country and crowns divisions at multiple levels. Local and regional titles at the event are often a point of pride for school communities and highlight student-athletes who participate in competitive cheer programs.
The police escort and public welcome offer a community celebration of the teams’ achievements and provide a structured way to mark the return. Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District is the local public school system whose schools include the Yellow Jacket athletic program. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
