Southaven Police celebrate retirement of Officer Ben Bynum after 25 years

Southaven, Mississippi — Chief Kern, family, coworkers and friends gathered yesterday to celebrate the retirement of Officer Ben Bynum after 25 years with the Southaven Police Department, the department said in a Facebook post.

During his tenure, Officer Ben Bynum served on patrol, worked in the traffic division and, for the past two years, served as the security officer for City Hall, the post said. The department noted his subtle, quick-witted humor and said it will be greatly missed by colleagues and residents alike.

The Southaven Police Department, which provides law enforcement and public safety services for the city of Southaven, marked the occasion as a milestone in a long career of community service. Retirements after multiple decades are common in municipal police forces and often prompt departments to recognize institutional knowledge, public trust and the personal sacrifices of long-serving officers.

The department extended its thanks and best wishes to Bynum for his years of service to the community, the Facebook post said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
