Facebook shows ‘content isn’t available’ when posts limited or deleted

Facebook displays a notice reading “This content isn’t available right now” when users attempt to open certain posts, saying the message usually appears because the owner shared the post with a small group, changed who can see it or deleted it.

The brief message is a common user-facing response on the social media platform owned by Meta. It signals that visibility settings, deletion or other actions by the account holder prevent content from being viewed by others.

That limitation can have practical consequences. When posts are restricted or removed, researchers, journalists and members of the public may be unable to verify statements, trace developments or access material that once appeared public, complicating reporting and fact-checking.

Facebook provides privacy and sharing controls that allow users to limit an audience for individual posts or for their accounts more broadly. For now, when the platform offers only the brief notice without further detail, viewers cannot determine which of several reasons applies. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
