Toppers sweep Delta State in doubleheader
Cleveland, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian College’s softball team swept Delta State University in a doubleheader Tuesday in Cleveland, winning 6-5 and 7-6, the school said.
In the opener, Mikaylah Fuqua tripled and later scored in the third inning, and Maryn Macri drove her home to give the Toppers a 2-1 edge. Karen Wisher added an RBI double in the fourth that scored Laklyn Nichols and stretched the lead to 3-1. Delta State rallied in the fifth, but Neely Barrier delivered a two-run double in the sixth to put Blue Mountain Christian back in front. Delta State scored once in the seventh, and Neely Cooper went the distance, tossing all seven innings to earn the win in the 6-5 game.
Game two saw early scoring by Fuqua and an RBI single from Kelsey Camp. Vaye Savage lined a two-run double in the fourth to push the Toppers ahead, but Delta State built a 6-3 lead with timely extra-base hits. Blue Mountain Christian rallied in the sixth when Savage hit a three-run home run to tie the game at six. Anna Harrison collected four hits in the nightcap and Savage finished with four RBIs.
The game remained tied until the eighth, when Bre Ramsey scored the walk-off run on a wild pitch for a 7-6 victory. Gail Wisher earned the relief win, throwing 4.1 shutout innings to close the game. The sweep highlighted Blue Mountain Christian’s late-game resilience and depth. The Toppers travel to Crowley’s Ridge College on Feb. 26.
