Toppers sweep Crowley’s Ridge, score 18 in nightcap
Blue Mountain Christian University swept Crowley’s Ridge College in a doubleheader Tuesday in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, winning the opener 4-3 and scoring 18 runs in the nightcap, the school’s athletics department said.
The opener was a back-and-forth affair. Blue Mountain Christian struck first in the second when Gavin Foley drove in a run, then saw Crowley’s Ridge take a brief lead with a two-run home run in the third before Cody Presley tied it with an RBI single, the release said.
The Toppers reclaimed the lead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Jake Meilstrup that scored Reise Thomas. Crowley’s Ridge evened the game in the seventh, but with two outs Jarret Morris hit an RBI double for the go-ahead run that sealed the 4-3 victory. Out of the bullpen, Caden Moore earned the win with three scoreless innings and one hit allowed, the release said.
Blue Mountain Christian carried that momentum into the nightcap, applying early pressure and building a multi-run lead. Crowley’s Ridge trimmed the deficit with a three-run inning before the Toppers broke the game open with a big inning that featured extra-base hits and run-producing at-bats. Yaidel Perez reached base consistently and scored four times, Presley had three RBIs, and Ross Polizzi added multiple RBIs, the release said. JD Klug picked up the win, working five innings and allowing three runs, and Jarret Morris threw two scoreless innings in relief as the bullpen finished the game.
The sweep showcased Blue Mountain Christian’s blend of late-game resilience and explosive offense. The Toppers return to the field Feb. 27 against Point University at 5 p.m. in Blue Mountain. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
