Toppers sweep Crowley’s Ridge, erupt for 18 in nightcap

Blue Mountain Christian University swept Crowley’s Ridge College in a doubleheader Tuesday in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, winning the opener 4-3 and scoring 18 runs in the nightcap to complete the sweep.

The opener was a back-and-forth game. Gavin Foley drove in a run in the second inning, and Crowley’s Ridge answered with a two-run home run in the third. Cody Presley delivered an RBI single to tie the game, and Jake Meilstrup lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth to score Reise Thomas and put the Toppers ahead.

Crowley’s Ridge tied the game in the seventh, but with two outs Jarret Morris ripped an RBI double to bring home the go-ahead run and seal the 4-3 victory. Presley finished with multiple hits and an RBI. Out of the bullpen, Caden Moore earned the win, throwing three scoreless innings and allowing one hit.

The momentum carried into the nightcap, when Blue Mountain Christian’s offense erupted early and never relented. Yaidel Perez scored four times, Presley added three RBIs, and Ross Polizzi produced multiple RBIs as the Toppers put together a big inning that broke the game open. JD Klug picked up the win, working five innings and allowing three runs, and Morris closed with two scoreless relief innings as the bullpen preserved the large lead.

The doubleheader sweep highlighted Blue Mountain Christian’s ability to grind out a close game and to dominate when the offense clicked. Blue Mountain Christian plays Point University on Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.
