Toppers push third-seeded Tennessee Southern to double overtime, fall 75-72

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Blue Mountain Christian College pushed third-seeded Tennessee Southern into double overtime but fell 75-72 in the opening round of the SSAC Women’s Basketball Championship.

Tennessee Southern found a rhythm early, but Blue Mountain stayed close behind steady defense and patient offense. The teams traded runs and neither side could build a lasting lead, and the score remained tied at the end of regulation.

Both teams continued to exchange baskets in the first overtime before play moved into a second extra period. The Toppers stayed within reach throughout and played with poise until Tennessee Southern edged ahead in the final seconds to secure the win.

Blue Mountain received a balanced offensive effort. Maddie Kirk led the Toppers with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. McKenzie Williams had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Isabella Carlson finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Rebecca Walter scored 10 points, Lena Taylor hit three 3-pointers on her way to 9 points, and Kathryn Echols added 7 points and 7 rebounds.

The Toppers connected on 10 3-pointers, collected 53 rebounds and recorded 18 assists. Blue Mountain’s program also noted appreciation for its seniors and their leadership. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
