Toppers lose to Missouri Baptist ahead of SSAC play

NEW ALBANY, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University men’s tennis team fell 7-0 to Missouri Baptist on Tuesday in a nonconference home match that served as a final tune-up before Southern States Athletic Conference play.

Missouri Baptist swept doubles play. At the top position, Adriaan Engelbrecht and Luis Lainer dropped a tight 6-4 decision. Caleb Rogers and Craig Blevins also fell 6-4, while Pablo Cruz and Kevin Kotzé lost 6-2.

The visitors completed the sweep in singles, taking all six matches. Lainer produced the closest result in singles, falling in a tiebreaker 7-4. The rest of the Blue Mountain lineup continued to compete but were unable to secure a point.

The match served as preparation for conference play as the Toppers shift focus to the Southern States Athletic Conference. Blue Mountain will travel to Montgomery, Alabama, on Thursday to begin SSAC competition.
