Toppers fall to UT Southern in 10th inning

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Mississippi — Blue Mountain Christian University opened its Southern States Athletic Conference series against the University of Tennessee Southern on Friday but lost 8-3 in 10 innings after UT Southern scored a five-run top of the 10th inning to pull away.

UT Southern took a 3-0 lead early before the Toppers rallied. Blue Mountain cut the deficit in the fifth inning and continued to chip away before tying the game to force extra innings, the school said.

The Toppers collected eight hits. Yaidel Perez went 2-for-3 with a run and a walk, Jake Meilstrup recorded a hit, scored, drew a walk and stole a base, and Jarrett Morris, Trace Roy and Hugh Parsons each had an RBI, Blue Mountain Christian University said. Jacob Bryant, Cody Presley and Morris also had hits.

On the mound, Chip Harris started and threw five innings, allowing three runs and striking out four. Christian Maness worked 4.1 innings in relief with four strikeouts, and Jesse Hancock also appeared out of the bullpen, the school said. Blue Mountain will seek to even the series Saturday at 1 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
