Blue Mountain splits doubleheader with Freed-Hardeman

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University split a midweek doubleheader with Freed-Hardeman on Wednesday at the BMCU Sportsplex, dropping the opener 4-1 before posting an 8-0, five-inning run-rule victory in the nightcap, BMCU said.

In the first game, Freed-Hardeman opened with two runs in the first inning. Blue Mountain cut the deficit to 2-1 when Anna Harrison scored in the bottom of the inning, but the Lions added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the 4-1 decision.

Mikaylah Fuqua led the Toppers in the opener, going 2-for-3. Harrison, Kelsey Camp and Vaye Savage also recorded hits as Blue Mountain totaled five hits. Gail Wisher threw a complete game, working seven innings against a strong Freed-Hardeman lineup, BMCU said.

Blue Mountain answered in the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding runs in the second and third before a three-run fifth provided the final margin in the 8-0 win. Harrison went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, Laklyn Nichols had two hits and two runs, and Neely Barrier drove in two.

Bri Langley tossed a five-inning complete-game shutout, limiting Freed-Hardeman to two hits, while the Toppers produced nine hits overall. Blue Mountain continues conference play Friday against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on March 20 at 2 p.m., BMCU said.
