Blue Mountain falls to Tennessee Southern in SSAC basketball game
Blue Mountain Christian University’s women’s basketball team lost 69-60 to Tennessee Southern on Saturday afternoon at Tyler Gymnasium, the school reports.
The Toppers started strong, trading baskets early and keeping the game close through the first quarter. Both teams exchanged momentum in the second quarter, but Tennessee Southern pulled ahead late in the half.
After halftime, Blue Mountain showed resilience on defense and worked to close the gap. The Lady Toppers responded to Firehawk runs with timely baskets and defensive stops. Despite their efforts and physical play inside, Tennessee Southern maintained its lead in the fourth quarter and secured the road victory.
Maddie Kirk led Blue Mountain with 17 points. Rebecca Walter posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Lena Taylor scored 12 points, and Kathryn Echols added 11 points and helped facilitate the offense.
The Toppers displayed balanced scoring and competed throughout the game against a conference opponent. Blue Mountain will continue SSAC play with an upcoming road game at Life University on Jan. 15, the school said.
