Blue Mountain Christian drops to Georgetown, No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian opened its 2026 season Friday with two losses, falling 8-5 to Georgetown (Ky.) in the opener and 15-5 in eight innings to No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan, according to Blue Mountain Christian athletics.

In the nine-inning opener, Georgetown scored three in the first inning before the Toppers answered with an RBI double by Ross Polizzi that scored Jake Meilstrup. Georgetown added runs later and manufactured three unearned runs in the ninth to secure the victory.

Left-hander Benji Webb started for the Toppers and did not figure in the decision after four innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts. Jack Hearn worked four innings of relief, yielding two hits with five strikeouts. Ryan Murphy (0-1) was charged with the loss despite allowing no hits or earned runs, Blue Mountain Christian reported.

In the second game, fifth-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan built an early lead and pulled away. Jack Hearn hit a solo homer and Reise Thomas hit a two-run homer for the Toppers, but Caleb Hall (0-1) took the loss after allowing multiple runs in the opening inning. Blue Mountain Christian falls to 0-2 and will remain in Athens to play Georgetown and Tennessee Wesleyan again Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. CT.
