Press conference to announce $1M community funding for Mississippi 2nd District

A Facebook post announced a press conference Jan. 27 that will unveil $1 million in 2025–2026 Community Project Funding for Mississippi’s Second Congressional District, the post said.

The post, which thanked Congressman Bennie G. Thompson for assistance, said the funding will support 10 sheriff departments and directly benefit residents across the district. The event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 205 Raymond Bolton Road, Bolton, Mississippi.

Congressman Bennie G. Thompson represents Mississippi’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Community Project Funding is a federal appropriations mechanism that allows members of Congress to request dollars for specific local projects; lawmakers and local officials have used such funding in recent years for public safety, infrastructure and community services.

The announcement signals an effort to direct federal resources to local law enforcement agencies in the district. According to the Facebook post, the funds will be distributed to 10 sheriff departments. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
