DeSoto County Supervisors mourn longtime leader Milton Nichols

The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors expressed deep condolences Friday to the family of Milton Nichols, a longtime community leader and public servant.

Nichols dedicated decades to public service, including 20 years as Mayor of Olive Branch and 12 years on the DeSoto County Board of Education, according to a Facebook post.

Supervisor Jessie Medlin, who served District 1 during Nichols’ time as mayor, recalled their collaboration during a period of rapid community growth. “Milton understood that progress had to be balanced, with growth supported by strong schools, stable families, and thoughtful planning,” Medlin said.

Supervisor Mark Gardner described Nichols as a good man and friend who cared deeply about the community. Supervisor Lee Caldwell praised Nichols’ Southern charm and his service as mayor and school board member.

The board honored Nichols’ legacy and extended sympathies to his family and loved ones, emphasizing his impact on DeSoto County.
