Winter Storm Fern disrupts Ole Miss, prompts student relief appeal
Winter Storm Fern didn’t just damage the University of Mississippi campus — it disrupted student life, the university said in a Facebook post. Ole Miss students are facing power and water outages, lost wages and unexpected costs, the post said, and officials urged immediate assistance.
The university, commonly known as Ole Miss and based in Oxford, Mississippi, said the Rebel Relief Disaster Fund provides immediate support when students need it most. The post said help cannot wait and asked alumni, donors and community members to give now.
Emergency relief funds at colleges generally aim to cover urgent needs such as temporary housing, food, transportation and utility bills for students who cannot meet unexpected expenses. University officials did not provide additional details about the number of students affected or the estimated damage in the post.
