Trump approves individual aid for Mississippi after Jan. winter storm
PEARL, Miss. — President Trump has approved Governor Tate Reeves’ request for Individual Assistance for counties affected by severe winter weather Jan. 23-27, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said in a press release dated April 11, 2026.
The federal declaration, recorded as FEMA-4899-DR-MS, makes Individual Assistance available to residents in 36 counties and to the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, MEMA said. Individual Assistance is a FEMA program that can provide grants for temporary housing, home repairs and other disaster-related needs when local resources are insufficient.
The approval allows eligible residents to seek federal help for losses not covered by insurance or other means. State and local officials typically coordinate with FEMA to notify affected communities about how to apply and to set up recovery centers where survivors can get information and assistance.
Officials with MEMA and FEMA will provide further guidance on eligibility, application procedures and timelines. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
