Police arrest man after vehicle pursuit at Starkville checkpoint
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Authorities arrested a man after a vehicle fled a DUI checkpoint and crashed late Friday night, according to the Starkville Police Department.
Officers were conducting a driver’s license checkpoint Thursday around 9:35 p.m. near Highway 389 and Garrard Road when the driver of a silver vehicle evaded the stop and fled. Officers initiated a pursuit but discontinued it due to safety concerns, police said.
The vehicle was later found wrecked by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office on North Frontage Road between Columbus and Starkville. The driver was identified as 36-year-old Lanforth Lee of Shuqualak.
Lee was arrested Monday on charges of felony fleeing, reckless driving, and failure to signal. A woman identified as Gina Hill, 38, of Columbus, was also taken into custody and faces an accessory charge after the fact.
