The National Weather Service said it has extended Severe Thunderstorm Watch 29 to include parts of Louisiana and Mississippi until 7 p.m. CDT this evening.

In Louisiana the watch covers six parishes in the northeast: Catahoula, Concordia, Franklin, Madison, Richland and Tensas. In Mississippi the watch covers 15 counties: Copiah, Hinds, Leake, Madison, Rankin, Scott and Simpson in central Mississippi; Neshoba in east central Mississippi; Lawrence and Lincoln in south central Mississippi; Adams, Claiborne, Franklin and Jefferson in southwest Mississippi; and Warren in west central Mississippi, the agency said.

The watch also lists multiple cities and towns under the advisory, including Brandon, Brookhaven, Bude, Canton, Carthage, Crystal Springs, Delhi, Fayette, Ferriday, Forest, Harrisonburg, Hazlehurst, Jackson, Jonesville, Madison, Magee, Meadville, Mendenhall, Monticello, Morton, Natchez, New Hebron, Newellton, Pearl, Pearl River, Philadelphia, Port Gibson, Rayville, Richland, Ridgeland, Roxie, St. Joseph, Tallulah, Vicksburg, Vidalia, Waterproof, Wesson, West Ferriday and Winnsboro.

A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe storms capable of producing damaging winds and large hail, the National Weather Service said. Residents in the listed parishes, counties and communities should monitor forecasts, secure outdoor objects and be prepared to seek shelter if threatening weather approaches. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
