Mississippi faces severe weather threat Sunday night into Monday

A Facebook post warned Sunday that the entire state of Mississippi is at risk for severe weather beginning Sunday evening, March 15, and lasting into the early morning hours of Monday, March 16, 2026.

The post said Mississippi could experience severe storms, damaging winds up to 70 mph, hail up to quarter size and possible tornadoes. It urged residents to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts and know their safe place.

Spring is a peak season for severe weather in the Southeast, and storms capable of producing strong winds, hail and tornadoes can cause power outages, property damage and personal injury. Local emergency managers and the National Weather Service routinely advise residents to monitor forecasts and have a plan for seeking shelter if warnings are issued.

Residents are advised to charge mobile devices, assemble an emergency kit and identify an interior room or storm shelter where they can go quickly if conditions worsen. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
