Jackson police, sheriff condemn attack on Beth Israel synagogue

Jackson police Chief Tyree D. Jones and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree D. Jones issued a joint statement condemning an attack at Beth Israel synagogue.

Jones called the incident unacceptable and said it impacts the entire community. He emphasized that hate and religious intolerance will not be tolerated in Jackson, aligning with Mayor John Horhn’s stance.

Jones said officers responded immediately, working with the Jackson Fire Department, arson investigators, and federal partners. Thanks to their quick, coordinated efforts, a suspect was taken into custody, and the investigation continues.

Jones reassured the Jewish community that the Jackson Police Department stands with them, pledging ongoing protection and accountability for those spreading fear or hatred.

“We will continue to protect your safety and hold accountable anyone who tries to spread fear or hatred in this city,” Jones said.
