Freezing weather prompts safety warnings
A Facebook post said freezing temperatures are expected this weekend and urged residents to take precautions if they lose power or must use alternate heat sources.
The post warned against running generators indoors or in garages, advised keeping space heaters away from anything that can burn, and urged people to make sure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working. It also reminded readers that carbon monoxide is odorless and deadly.
Freezing conditions can increase demand on power systems and raise the risk of outages. When electricity is unavailable, people often turn to generators, portable heaters and other combustion-based devices, which can produce carbon monoxide if used improperly. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are standard safety devices recommended by public safety agencies to detect hazards early.
The post encouraged residents to plan ahead, stay warm and stay safe. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
